A Summer of Hands on History in LEGO® at the Rheged Centre, Penrith, gateway to the Lake District below are a list of events that are being held over the summer months. Starting on Saturday 9 July till Sunday 4 September 2016 – Bricks In Time: Hands On History In LEGO. Curated By Bright Bricks, featured In Channel 4’s ‘Inside Lego At Christmas’

Travel back in time with an interactive LEGO® exhibition brand new for Rheged, and discover models made by professional LEGO Artists which bring to life some of Britain’s important historical turning points. Highlights include an exclusive 8 metre long model of The Flying Scotsman, a giant diorama of Saxon life, Beatrix Potter and her creations, Tudor monarchs and a large model of Lowther Castle, all bustling with minifigs and LEGO characters dressed in period costumes. Then spark your child’s imagination with LEGO brick building activities, from racing your own wind-powered train, creating a model for our zip wire, to constructing catapults and creating family portraits in LEGO, before testing your skills against the professionals in a timed building challenge

  • 3’s and under go free
  • At peak times, there may be a short wait to enter the gallery to ensure visitors have the best experience possible.

Master LEGO brick builders bright bricks have placed some of their large models around rheged. Pick up a trail sheet from the welcome desk. 20p

Make and take

LEGO building activities where you keep what you make, running all day every day throughout the summer holidays with no need to book!

Make and take a minifig

Saturday 9 July – Sunday 4 September

Create your own customized LEGO minifig. Mix and match a head, body, legs and hats, hair and accessories. You could create a minifig version of yourself, or try to recreate a historical character.

Make and take a miniature LEGO flying scotsman

Saturday 9 July – Sunday 4 september

The iconic steam engine at the centre of our exhibition is recreated here as a unique collectable miniature, complete with minifig to ride on top of it. The time it takes to complete this activity will vary depending on your ability, but they recommend allowing 30 minutes.

 

Mad science – LEGO mindstorms workshop!

Monday 25 july

LEGO mindstorms workshop! – this interactive, hands-on workshop will develop the children’s understanding of programming as they build their own LEGO robot, input the desired sequence and observe the response. The robots can respond to light, sound, touch and even the presence of infrared waves – rest assured the children will have a blast as they customise and programme their machines!
