LEGO & U.N. helping to build a better world
Today in New York City, the United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon added the last LEGO brick to a large scale LEGO model of the United Nations’ Headquarters. The event which took place during the UN Global Compact Leaders Summit was to give focus to the “Architects of a Better World.” Campaign. The event also celebrates the next LEGO Architecture set - 21018 UN Headquarters which is expected to launch next month.
The completion of the 1.65m tall model followed a series of exercises in which global CEOs used specially-designed creativity kits of LEGO bricks to build their vision of a stronger future for education, human rights and the environment. The Secretary-General finalized the UN model with the Chairman of the LEGO Foundation, Kjeld Kirk Kristiansen, and Foundation CEO, Dr. Randa Grob-Zakhary by his side. The model displayed at the UN scales to 165cm high x 240cm wide x 168cm deep, and used a total of 90,300 LEGO bricks.
At the event Chairman of the LEGO Foundation, Kjeld Kirk Kristiansen said;
“Just as the UN is a symbol of how we can come together to try and build a better world, I hope that this model will serve as a symbol of the LEGO Foundation’s commitment to unlocking every child’s potential.”
