VIP early access on LEGO Ideas 21327 Typewriter starts now
The early VIP release of LEGO Ideas 21327 Typewriter is now underway, giving hardcore fans the chance to be the first to buy the 35th crowdsourced set.
The retro model – which is based on a design by Steve Guinness, who won the first series of LEGO MASTERS with Nate Dias – won’t go on wide release until July 1, which means VIP members have a full fortnight of exclusive access to the 2,079-piece build.
Decked out in sand green (marking a huge change from Steve’s originally grey design), 21327 Typewriter packs in plenty of functionality, including keys that can be pressed, a working typebar and a carriage that moves as you write.
All it’s really missing is a very specific brick that would have made the lives of modular building collectors a lot easier, but that’s no shade on 21327 Typewriter. It doesn’t exist to bring down the aftermarket prices of a certain sand green set, after all: its primary purpose is, as Steve said last week, to ‘bring nostalgia to adult fans’ and ‘curiosity to younger fans’.
Check out our full gallery of images for a closer look at the brand new LEGO Ideas set, which follows on from April’s 21326 Winnie the Pooh, then head over to LEGO.com to grab your copy. You’ll need to part with £179.99 / $199.99 / €199.99 to do so, but buying within the next few days will also net you a free Speed Champions polybag, 30343 McLaren Elva.
21327 Typewriter is available exclusively for VIPs until July 1, when it goes on wider sale at LEGO.com and in LEGO Stores. If you’re not signed up to the VIP program yet, now’s as good a time as any.

Author Profile
- I like to think of myself as a journalist first, LEGO fan second, but we all know that’s not really the case. Journalism does run through my veins, though, like some kind of weird literary blood – the sort that will no doubt one day lead to a stress-induced heart malfunction. It’s like smoking, only worse. Thankfully, I get to write about LEGO until then.
